rp_Microsoft-Advertising.jpegEarlier this week news hit the street that Microsoft had laid off approximately 100 jobs from its global advertising sales team after declaring it redundant., under its restructuring program, to rightsize its business processes. Microsoft’s global ad sales are responsible for selling ads across Microsoft properties including Bing, Xbox, MSN, Outlook, Windows 8, and Skype.

Back in July the company announced plans to cut 14% or 18,000 employees over the next year.  The first round of cuts came as Microsoft laid of 13,000 employees, mainly from the recently acquired Nokia business unit, and then in September, the company carried out the second round laying off 2,100 employees, of which 747 were in the Seattle area alone, while the rest were from across its global operations and teams.

We’ve gotten word that the cuts have also impacted the team here in Canada and have we heard that 4 individuals have been laid off here in Toronto.  We’re also hearing they will not be hosting their annual holiday party, which we can only assume is another side of a shift in their business.
