Postmedia Network announced today the launch of their pay wall service, as Canada’s largest publisher by circulation of paid English-language daily newspapers looks to revenue growth.

“Newspapers around the world are realizing you can’t spend millions of dollars on content and give it away for free,” said Paul Godfrey, President and CEO, Postmedia Network. “We believe that readers will choose the best subscription option for them and pay for access as long as we continue to invest in the premium content, insight and commentary they have come to expect from their favourite newspaper brands.”

Postmedia Pay WallThe newspaper chain will offer three types of paid access including an All Access bundle(includes print and digital), Digital Access bundle and its ePaper subscription (page-by-page replica of the day’s printed newspaper including all stories).

So if you are a reader of such newspapers as National Post, Financial Post, Calgary Herald, Saskatoon StarPhoenix, Regina Leader-Post and Windsor Star, you will be asked to register for online accounts after reading 10 articles for free, or subscribe to one of the option packages.

We’ve seen similar offering by the other major newspaper networks including Globe and Mail and Toronto Star earlier in the year, and an overall trend within the newspaper industry across both Canada and the United States.
