VineLast week Twitter announced its newest product Vine which is “a mobile service that lets you capture and share short looping videos. Like Tweets, the brevity of videos on Vine (6 seconds or less) inspires creativity. Now that you can easily capture motion and sound, we look forward to seeing what you create.”  If this sounds a little familiar then you may recall Toronto-based Keek which we reported about on last week.  Based on their announcement, Keek says it has 6 million “registered users” that it has garnered over the last month, after raising another $18 million.  Of course registered versus active users are two very different ways to repot your numbers.

Another thing Twitter has going to it is the large based of third party apps which have been developed using their API,  even Vine  has started to see new companies embrace its API – Vinepeek givers you a real-time look at what people are recording and posting.    While Twitter has been criticized of late for locking out companies from using its API and subsequent data they still have a number of apps that continue to grow.  Based on what we know of Keek, it does not have allow access to its API.

So we gotta ask…
