As they inch closer to the launch of the much anticipated Blackberry 10, Research In Motion reported their third quarter results for the months ending December 1, 2012 last night. Things were not great for the mobile device manufacture this quarter, but the market has not given up all hope on them.
Revenue for the third quarter of fiscal 2013 was $2.7 billion, down 5% from $2.9 billion in the previous quarter and down 47% from $5.2 billion in the same quarter of fiscal 2012. The revenue breakdown for the quarter was approximately 60% for hardware, 36% for service and 4% for software and other revenue. During the quarter, RIM shipped approximately 6.9 million BlackBerry smartphones and approximately 255,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.
RIM also announced that Robin Bienfait, Chief Information Officer will retire at the end of this year following 6 years of service to the Company.
