In support for the Food Banks Canada, Koodo Mobile and El Tabador (Koodo’s start spokescharacter) are teaming up to to record a holiday album called A Merry Mariachi Holiday.  As part of this unique campaign,  every download and share of the songs, Koodo will make a cash donation to Food Banks Canada to help the fight against hunger.  The album of festive carols, featuring original lyrics written and sung by El Tabador himself, is available now for free at www.MerryMariachi.com or on Koodo’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/koodo.

“El Tabador is no stranger to the fight against hunger, but he needs the help of Canadians this holiday season to give it a one-two punch,” says Lise Doucet, VP, Marketing and Communications, Koodo Mobile.  “This engaging fundraising initiative makes it easy for Canadians to help the fight against hunger. By visiting MerryMariachi.com or our Facebook page, Canadians can help those in need while getting El Tabador’s hilarious take on some holiday classics! It’s our way of giving back and saying thanks for making us Canada’s most recommended national mobile phone company.”

Koodo’s creative agency, TAXI2 has developed various marketing, advertising and social elements to fully bring the Merry Mariachi Holiday campaign to life.  The album is only available until January 6, and along with downloading the album online, users also have the ability to spread the mariachi holiday cheer with personalized e-carols that they can send to their friends or download them as ringtones to have El Tabador serenade them every time their phone rings. TV viewers will also get a sneak peak of El Tabador recording his holiday album in a TV bug and even those in the restroom will have the opportunity to scan a QR code where they will be directed to the Merry Mariachi mobile site to hear the album.

The integrated marketing initiative is also being supported with a proactive public relations program by Toronto-based Strategic Objectives including a national media relations campaign and media drops featuring El Tabador’s Elves visiting media outlets to sing the carols and hand out the albums to encourage awareness of this great fundraiser for Food Banks Canada.
