CRTC has officially appointed Barbara Motzney as the governing body’s new Chief Consumer Officer, effective October 1. As part of the role, Barbara will be to better understand the concerns of Canadian consumers and bring them to the Commission’s attention during the decision-making process. A number of research activities will be launched in the coming months focused on consumer issues to identify trends and best practices, including those in other jurisdictions. The Chief Consumer Officer will head the Consumer Affairs and Strategic Planning.

The new sector, formerly known as Policy Development and Research, will continue to provide support and coordination to our core sectors of Broadcasting, Compliance and Enforcement, and Telecommunications. It will conduct research and planning activities with a focus on consumer policy. This will ensure that consumer issues are integrated into all aspects of the CRTC’s work and that its decisions are more relevant to Canadian consumers.
