You may recall a few months ago Google made put a multi-billion dollar for daily deal site Groupon, which they out right turned down. Shortly after, Google launched Google Offers, of course the service isn’t available in Canada yet. News over the weekend broke that they acquired The Dealmap, a US-based site which currently has more than 50 partners in the US including CityGrind, Local.com, MerchantCircle, Microsoft , MyPoints, Savings.com, SuperMedia, and T-Mobile.

Google has often been known to buy market share through acquisition, so around the office here we can’t help but wonder if they will buy a Canadian daily deal site as part of their growth strategy in Canada. If so, who would make sense? Maybe TeamBuy.ca who just secured $7M last week? Or maybe Dealfind?  Either site would be a drop in the bucket for Google to acquire.
