Ericsson announced this week its plans to relocate its Ottawa labs to a new facility in Kanata Research Park. The facility will house the company’s more than 900 employees starting in the summer of 2012. The move is expected to be completed before the end of 2012.
The new facility will allow for more efficient use of space and give Ericsson the capacity to extend its Over-The-Air testing and demonstration capabilities. It is also well served by public transit and has a number of amenities in the immediate area.
“Ericsson is pleased to move our Ottawa-based employees to a state-of-the art facility providing leading-edge R&D for global telecom service providers,” said Mark Henderson, President and CEO, Ericsson Canada. “We look forward to remaining in the Ottawa area, one of North America’s leading R&D hubs.”
The current lab is a major source for Ericsson’s LTE research, and the new facility will have approximately 200,000 square feet of operational space, with the potential to expand an additional 40,000 square feet.
