As the weather heats up and more tourists start to visit Canada and the great cities that we have, the Tourism Toronto and Tourisme Montréal have united in a very unique and probably first of its kind campaign.  The tourism board of both cities have launched the “Cheating Wall,” an interactive portal in each city providing a live panoramic view into the other city.  A street fashion competition will be featured today in between the two cities, where spokespeople from Tourism Toronto and Tourisme Montréal will be available to discuss the program. The 505km Runway will see Torontonians and Montrealers strutting their style judged by fashionista and regular guest on MTV Canada’s The Hills After Show, Esther Garnick, in Toronto, and Raji Sohal, fashion blogger and finalist from CBC’s FASHION FILE: Host Hunt, in Montréal.

“The partnership between Tourism Toronto and Tourisme Montréal is valuable one and we would like people in both Toronto and Montréal to take part in this,” said the Honourable Charles Lapointe, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tourisme Montréal. “The Cheating Wall is an innovative opportunity for live interaction between people from both cities and opens a window to the tourism appeal each provides. We encourage Torontonians and Montrealers to get away and cheat on their cities to appreciate the unique beauty each one has to offer.”

In Toronto, pedestrians can interact face-to-face in a live video chat built into the wall at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on King Street West in Toronto and 350 de Maisonneuve Boulevard, at the corner of Bleury Street, in Montréal.   Each day will feature a new and exciting event, inviting people to participate and observe the Toronto and Montréal street life broadcast through The Cheating Wall, which will be on display until June 15, 2011

“As both cities evolve as global, cosmopolitan urban destinations they appeal to sophisticated travellers who are looking for vibrant and exciting city experiences,” said David Whitaker, President and CEO of Tourism Toronto. “Hundreds of thousands of people already travel between Toronto and Montreal each year, and we have an opportunity to encourage more people to cheat on their own city and explore another truly amazing city.”

A number of events will also be held in the two cities to support the initiative including dance parties, fashion walk-offs, B-boy break-dance-offs, live artist collaborations, and a cross-city dinner party to a speed-date. In addition, Torontonians and Montrealers can share their own event suggestions through thecheatingwall.com and www.trompetavillemuramur.com which will direct you to The Cheating Wall’s Facebook pages, for a chance to win flights courtesy of Air Canada, celebrating its new service out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
The Facebook pages will feature event details, photos and the opportunity for visitors to interact and share ideas; as well as, view unique content from recognizable Torontonians and Montrealers. Participants can share their experiences on Twitter with the hashtags #cheatingwall and #trompetaville. The program is supported by bus shelter ads and Zoom posters in dozens of restaurants throughout the cities, featuring QR codes to make it easier for people to connect directly to the Facebook pages.

In 2010, Torontonians and Montrealers showed the love with 575,000 Torontonians visiting Montréal and 515,000 visitors from Montréal to Toronto. From research conducted by Tourism Toronto, restaurants and shopping are the two main reasons Montrealers visit Toronto, while Yonge and Dundas Square and the Toronto waterfront are the two most visited neighbourhoods, along with the Entertainment District, Queen West and Kensington Market.
Interview opportunities are available with representatives from Tourism Toronto and Tourism Montréal. Representatives can discuss the idea behind The Cheating Wall and the great tourism opportunities available in each city.
