Ottawa’s Zip.ca has been making slight tweaks to their business model, the company first launch offering online movie rentals. Zip.ca has partnered with the Gemini Awards to provide their online video on demand technology to allow members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to vote on nominated programs, and Zip.ca will be recognized as a sponsor of the Gemini Awards. This new sponsorship is an expansion that was started between Zip.ca and the Gemini Awards a few years ago, which according to Zip.ca CEO Curt Millar provides and opportunity to “showcase the cooperation and support that makes the Canadian entertainment industry a breeding ground for some of the best talent and creativity around.”
“Working with Zip.ca for the past couple of years has helped us to streamline the voting process by allowing members to view full episodes of nominated programs easily and immediately online” said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy. “This shift gives members the ability to view the nominated programs no matter where they are and to fit screenings into their busy schedules.”
The Gemini Awards spans across 25 program categories and over 200 steaming videos will be made available to the members to vote on.
