Rogers Jumps Into The Mobile Payment Pool

Looking for another sign that mobile payments is in its infancy stage and going to really take off in the next few months? Canadian teleco Rogers through its Rogers Venture, recently made a financial investment into mobile payment provider Payfone. In total $19 million was invested in this round by American Express, Verizon Investments Inc. (assisted by Verizon Ventures), Rogers Ventures and from existing investors Opus Capital, BlackBerry Partners Fund and RRE Ventures.
Payfone’s mobile footprint expands globally into countries such as Canada, the United States, EMEA, Latin America and Asia.

The company was founded in 2008 by industry veteran Rodger Desai.
