Canada has a lot of tremendous talent and a few days ago I had asked for nominations for the men who are the “rock stars” in social media and the community has helped to nominate this impressive list which represents many cities across the country. The original call for nominations is here. If there is someone that you feel is missing be sure to add their name(s), you have until the end of the day on December 8th to add any additional names for nominations. On the December 10th we’ll open up the voting much like what is already taking place for women in social media which current has over 800 votes in the first week, and a lot of positive comments about how some of these women have influenced the community.

It’s an honour just to be nominated…
There are clearly two areas to consider: the visionaries/thought leaders and those who are producing content as consultants to organizations or in-house social media experts.
I’d hazard a guess that the busier you are with client work, the less time you have to be all visionary…but that’s just one man’s opinion.
I’d love to comment, but I’m busy working
Get back to work Jones!!
Wow, I’m flattered!
I don’t see Wayne MacPhail (http://w8nc.com/) on the list and that would be a huge oversight since he’s training whole new flocks of social media wunderkind at Ontario universities.
…wow…humbled by the nomination as well and just delighted to be in the company of so many leaders and pioneers in this fascinating evolving and tranforming realm of community and communications…cheers to all…just great to be doing what we’re doing and to have a great company like Molson that allows me to keep on generating ideas and trying them out…@MolsonFerg
I’m totally honoured to be nominated. Thanks.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t also recommend another fellow Atlantic Canadian, Mark Dykeman – http://broadcasting-brain.com/ – for the list.
David
In my humble opinion, the list is incomplete without the addition of Jay Moonah, Julien Smith, Mark Blevis, Bob Goyetche, Stuart MacDonald, Mike McDerment, Saul Colt, Michael Seaton, Michael O’Connor Clarke, Ed Lee, David Bradfield, Bob LeDrew and Terry Fallis. I’m probably missing a couple so I hope no one holds it against me.
Dave, It would be great if you would add links for the women nominees to make it easier for those not as familiar with the nominees to learn more about them.
My wife wants to know if there is a calendar involved…
I would first like to thank Melanie Baker for nominating me.
I would then like to say that I will do my best crush my competition in a merciless and discriminating fashion.
Ilya Grigorik – founder of AideRSS and blogger extraordinaire – http://www.igvita.com/
Thanks for the mention in the updates section! I’m honoured, and now I have another list of blogs to check out too.
Cheers!
Rob.

Agree with so many of the names already on the list – rather than be redundant, I’ll propose a few that seem to be missing. Not surprisingly, most of these names are in the Quebec market .. some writing/podcasting exclusively in French:
Bob Goyetche and Mark Blevis (who will both get top points for their work in organizing events, from PodCamps in several cities to PAB etc)
Pierre Bouchard (www.pierre-bouchard.com)
Marc Snyder (http://emm-ess.blogspot.com/) – who doesn’t blog anymore but who was Quebec’s first PR blogger
Julien Smith
Tod Maffin
Bob LeDrew
Sylvain Grand’Maison (http://quebecbalado.com/ and http://fono.ca/)
Philippe Martin (http://www.nayezpaspeur.ca/blog/)
Claude Malaison (http://emergenceweb.com/blog/)
Geoffroi Garon (http://blogue.biotope.ca/)
Sylvain Carle (http://www.afroginthevalley.com/)
Martin Lessard (http://www.martinlessard.com/)
Laurent Maisonnave (http://www.zelaurent.com/)
Laurent Lasalle (http://mesparolessenvolent.com/)
Bruno Guglielminetti (http://www.guglielminetti.com/)
I only wish I’d been around in November to add some Quebec names to the women’s list! There are some real gems to be discovered.
Cheers
Michelle
Hang on! How can Terry Fallis not be up there? Terry Fallis of Inside PR, please!
Good catch Michelle!! That is OVER 60 nominations so far.
You forgot Mark Federman at OISE, Rob Paterson on PEI and Jevon MacDonald of StartUp North and Firestoker.
Oh, and what about Dave Pollard ?
Wow – that’s a hell of a list. It’s an honour to be nominated, but humbling to see how many people on that list are so much more deserving than I.
Either way, I plan on letting it go to my head.
I wrote up a whole slew of nominees, but they seem to have gone into the ether.
So… I second many of the nominees above, and also nominate:
Kris Krug kriskrug.com
Boris Mann bmannconsulting.com
Jordan Behan jordanbehan.com
Monica – I’ve approving any nominations that I saw, maybe there was a bug at the time with the site or a browser issues. I’ll add the 3 you’ve mentioned though.
Dave
What a great list of who’s who!
Dave – what about creating a badge for all nominees (men and women) so that bloggers can direct people to the poll directly from their sites?
I’m sure technorati would reward profectio.com for the link love too
cheers
Phil.
Love the idea Phil – where or where do I find a great agency that can do up the badge???
Where can we vote?
CT – with 60+ nominations it is going to take me a ‘bit’ to set it up in the system…Hopefully have it ready by the end of the day.
Thanks for all the nominations, voting is now closed.
honored to be on this list with so many great people and so many friends! may you all continue to be most influential.
One more if it’s not too late…
