The power of social media has long gone from the curiosity stage to being a regular part of an online campaigns as brands look to connect with users and empower them to do more and share their experience with using your product or service. As Steve Harding, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications at Canadian Blood Services says, “Social media is much more than just a channel to reach youth. It’s all about community, it is a perfect fit for a cause like ours that is so community-centric, allowing people whose lives have been touched by giving or receiving blood the chance to share, converse and interact.”
The Canadian Blood Service recently launched a new social media site, Thankyourdonor.ca, which is an online destination where recipients can share their stories, photographs and videos about how receiving blood or blood products made a difference in their life. It is being launched as part of National Blood Donor Week, to pay tribute to volunteer blood donors in Canada and inspire others to join them in saving lives.
The site and social media program were developed by Tribal DDB Canada and Radar DDB in Vancouver, Radar DDB Managing Director, Yvonne van Dinther adds, “Instead of focusing on the cause, the new site focuses on the effect of the donation and demonstrates through powerful personal stories, photos and videos, the positive outcome the gift of blood can make. The dialog the site creates will be very meaningful and relevant to both recipients and donors. The site also leverage video by allowing recipients to videos to YouTube on a special channel created specially for this community.
