April 1 there is a new sheriff taking over at the top position with Corus Entertainment, but this isn’t a joke and he ain’t no fool. Doug Murphy will take over for John Cassaday, who announced he will be retiring on March 30, 2015 after 15 years in the role.
Doug Murphy has been with the Company for 12 years and has held numerous senior management positions. Doug joined Corus in 2003 to grow the Nelvana business as Executive Vice President, Business Development. He was later promoted to Executive Vice President & General Manager Corus Kids, expanding his oversight to include Corus’ kids television networks in 2008 and subsequently, to President, Corus Television responsible for all Corus Television assets in 2010. In 2013, Doug was appointed Chief Operating Officer adding the Radio division to his role. Before joining Corus, Doug spent ten years with The Walt Disney Company in a variety of executive positions in Canada, the United States and Japan. Doug holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.
