vimeoWith the annual Toronto International Film Festival getting ready to take over Toronto in 48 hours, online video distribution Vimeo  is offering independent filmmakers a $10,000 advance to make their movies available online through the site’s Vimeo On Demand service.  Unlike YouTube, Vimeo has often been known as more of an “artsy” destination for videos, so makes sense that they’d try to leverage TIFF to boost the number of videos on the service.

Filmmakers get $10,000, and in exchange, Vimeo gets the exclusive distributor rights of those films online or on other digital platforms for 30 days, or until the film makes back its advance, after that the film makers are free to do what they want with their work.
