I have absolutely no idea how much a stamp costs today, last year or within the last 5 years. I am not aware of where the closest post office is to my house, and the one close to the office was shut down last year.

It is now August 2013 and like it or not, we live in a digital world! Our world is changing every day, some businesses are thriving and others are dying a slow death.  Those with good thinkerbusiness models provide their customers what they want or need, and smart innovators create markets for themselves – HootSuite, Google, Square.

When I think of the Canada Post, I think of a solid business model where they make money to deliver mail from point A to point B. However, I do not think of innovation, they provide the same service they have always provided for generations. Remember, the world is changing, millennial for example live in a digital world – how are you solving their problems? What product or service does the Canada Post provide that is disrupting their lives and turning this growing population into customers.

Over the weekend I came across Outbox who recently closed a $5M round of funding. What does Outbox provide? Outbox will digitize your mail and drop will stop by a physical mailbox a few times a week, scan your mail and in turn make it accessible for you via apps for your smartphone or tablet. They will then drop off your mail (or packages) at user-designed location and you will get an alert when it is available to pick up.

Pretty simple concept, maybe Canada Post will launch this type of service soon, if not some startup certainly will jump on it!
