ZipcarCar sharing service Zipcar has started testing a new no-fee membership offering exclusive to the Canadian market, and will be piloting the program in Toronto and Vancouver.  The program is being called “Access Plan,” and will only apply to weekday car service, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Access Plan hourly and daily rates will be the same as Zipcar’s existing plan – starting at $9 an hour in Toronto ($78 per day) and $8 in Vancouver ($72 per day). A one-time fee for an insurance background check is required for all plans.

Earlier this week car rental provider Avis announced it has acquired Zipcar for around $500 million, news that seemed to disappoint many in the online world.
