Integrated entertainment group, Square Enix Group, announced plans to expand their Montreal operations through its Eidos-Montreal studio and the creation of a new second studio, Square Enix Montreal that is scheduled to open in 2012.
“Montreal is a vibrant centre of game creators with industry-leading talent, and one of the most important bases of our global network of game development within the Square Enix Group,” said Yoichi Wada, President and Chief Executive Officer, SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD.
Eidos-Montreal, a studio which was established in 2007, released its first game, DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION. With this new studio in place, 150 jobs will be created.
Square joins a growing list of gaming studios setting up shop in Canada including Electronic Arts, THQ and Ubisoft in forming a major Canadian studio, all of which have figured out the tax credits they are eligible for in Canada.
