Premier Dalton McGuinty Stops By Huawei Canadian Headquarters

Premier Dalton McGuinty recently stopped by the Canadian headquarters of Huawei, a global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider last week. As part of his visit, he had a tour of their Markham facilities and met with the 280 employees who would of of that office.

“We are extremely honoured that Premier McGuinty is visiting us at our Markham facility,” says Raymond Lei, Chief Operating Officer for Huawei Canada. “Over the past year, with support from the Provincial Government, Ontario has become the cornerstone of our Canadian operation, as we continue to tap into its impressive talent base and grow our presence in both Markham and Ottawa.”

Last year, Huawei received a Strategic Jobs Investment Fund grant of $6.5 million from the Province of OnreIO, with a commitment to create 164 new jobs and invest $67 million in R&D in Ontario over the next five years. Since receiving the grant, Huawei Canada has already hired over 100 people, and spent almost $17 million in R&D. Huawei’s R&D facility in Kanata, Ontario has grown to 120 researchers and engineers, with plans to double in size over the next several years.
